Friends of Habitat for Humanity, Greater Athens needs your helping hands to brighten up the home of nearly 80 children at the Hatzikyriakio Orphanage in Piraeus!

For our most recent project at the Hatzikyriakio Orphanage, we need volunteers ready to paint the run-down fence surrounding the Orphanage. If you can provide the paint brushes, we’ll provide the paint. At the end of the paint party, you’ll enjoy a light lunch, receive a certificate of participation and know that your effort brightened the world of children that have no other place to call home.

Everyone willing to help is invited to attend the Hatzikyriakio Paint Party on:
Saturday & Sunday, June 17th & 18th from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and
Saturday & Sunday, June 24th & 25th from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Please call Angela Kousouli at the Friends of Habitat for Humanity Main Office at 210-4182251 or email us at hfhgr@hol.gr, to confirm how many volunteers will be attending.

Dear Friends,

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is a non-profit organization that seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people from all walks of life to work together in partnership to help build or re-build houses for those in need. Habitat has built more than 200,000 houses in more than 91 countries around the world, providing some 1,000,000 people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.

In April 2005, Friends of Habitat for Humanity, Greater Athens was officially recognized as a non-profit, non-governmental organization in Greece. Friends of Habitat for Humanity has already been active in Athens, taking on and successfully completing several projects to date. These include the renovation of the ELEPAP Center for children with physical disabilities, and two shelters for refugee children: the Ark Center and the Multicultural Day Care Center.

In November 2005, Friends of Habitat for Humanity co-organized a fundraising event at the Megaron Moussikis in Athens for the support of the survivors of the Katrina hurricane in New Orleans. The amount raised by this effort has already been handed to Habitat for Humanity, International, to assist in the reconstruction of individual homes in New Orleans.

Local organizations, clinics and centers have contacted us requesting assistance in improving their housing conditions. The list continues to grow. Currently we are working towards renovating a building in Patissia for The Smile of the Child organization, which will house 24 children, victims of family abuse. We depend on your support to help us in our efforts to renovate, to rebuild, and to reconstruct the buildings in Attiki that house the handicapped, the orphaned, the elderly and others in need of appropriate shelter. We are “rebuilding” lives.

Join us in our effort to improve housing for the needy in Athens. We need volunteers to ensure the miracle happens; we need individuals and businesses to donate materials, manpower, expertise and we need strong financial support to make Habitat for Humanity, Greater Athens, a vital source in making our community a place for all to be proud. Sign up to volunteer or donate to Friends of Habitat for Humanity, Greater Athens.

The office of Friends of Habitat for Humanity operates in Piraeus, on Stratigou Eindou 14, weekdays from 10 am to 4 pm. For more information, please call us at 210-4182251or email us at hfhgr@hol.gr.

THANK YOU AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO A WORKING PARTNERSHIP

Sincerely,

Dr. Connie Burke, President
