Join our Earth Day celebration of the Greek landscape!

Discover one of the most beautiful ancient sites in Attiki!

Propitiate the Goddess Nemesis, who punishes the arrogance of the powerful.

Clean up the neglected shoreline and naturists' beach at Rhamnous (Ραμνούντα).

Organizers:  The Hellenic-American Democratic Association (HELADA), a new progressive political organization for American voters and their friends.  Any like-minded group or individual is welcome to join us.  Permission has been kindly granted by the 2nd Ephoreia of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities and the Municipality of Grammatiko.

Drivers/passengers assemble in Halandri at the Doukissis Plakentias Metro Station pick-up/drop-off area.

1045

Depart for Rhamnous via Gerakas-Pikermi-Nea Makri-Kato Souli road.

Park at chapel of Aghia Marina by the beach (P-1 on map), distribute areas, tools.

Begin clean-up .

Tailgate picnic (or rustic taverna T-1 if weather dictates)

Drive to P-2, tour ancient site of Rhamnous, including the 5th century BC Sanctuary of Nemesis and Themis and the well-preserved fortress/civic center of the 2nd c. B.C.  Archaeologist Vasilis Petrakos, who has been working here since the 1960s, has fought to protect the region from development.  His results are impressive.

Volunteers Needed:

Drivers with cars, Trash Collectors with sturdy shoes and sturdy backs, Picnic Coordinators, Environmental Spokesperson, Photographer, Publicist, T-shirt Impresario.

 

Donations Needed:

Strong sacks for trash collecting, tarp for trash sorting, heavy-duty plastic garbage bags, rakes, gloves, spiked sticks, rope (for one rough trail patch), refreshments and picnic supplies.
